Weather Calendar Photo Competition

Who'd have thought the weather would have its own calendar? In fact there are several photo competitions inviting photographers to send in their photos of unusual and spectacular weather events.

Lake Jindabyne Sunrise
I have the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Weather Calendar on my wall and it's full of astounding images. My tip is, don't worry if you're not a professional or experienced photographer - just keep an eye out for that amazing cloud formation, sunset, storm, or even an image of ice crystals forming on a leaf, because it could be a winning entry.

Both of these competitions run each year, so even if you miss a deadline, you can start taking weather photos ready for next year's photo competition.

Australian Bureau of Meteorology Weather Calendar

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has produced a photographic weather calendar since 1985.

Deadline - yearly around the end of March

Then and Now Photo Competition from Budget Direct

Before the bikini

That old black and white photo from Grandma's collection could win you a cash prize in a photo competition.

Just add a photo of the same place/thing/person to show the contrast between 'then and now', post it on Facebook or Twitter with the hastag #BDThenAndNow and you could win $2,000.

Make sure you share your prize with Grandma!

Of course not everyone has historic photos, so the time frame can be much shorter. You might have some great 'before and after' photos of your home renovation, or that Dorothy the Dinosaur birthday cake before and after it was attacked by a bunch of rampaging five year olds. What about the time you had your long hair shaved off for a cancer fundraiser, contrasted with the long flowing locks that grew back?

Even if you're not entering this competition, it's worth having a look at the website to see the clever "time slider" which allows you to see Australian city scenes as they were, and as they are today.

Deadline:  Midday 8th May 2015

Website: Then & Now Photo Competition

Open to: Australian residents aged 18 years and older

Prizes:
First: $2,000
Second: $500
Judges' Choice:  $500

Terms & Conditions
Take a look at these, especially Paragraph 32 which deals with your copyright. The link to the T&Cs is on the bottom left hand corner of the How To Enter page.

Canberra Photo Competition

Most photo competitions call for new photos, but this one is also for old photographs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin.  Did you visit Canberra as a child and have your photo taken at the waterside? If you've lived in Canberra you might even have a photo of the lake during its construction stage. Have a look through your old Kodak moments because that old snap could win you $500.

The Canberra Times is sponsoring the competition and is also offering a prize for a photo taken this year.

Deadline: 31 October 2014

Categories:
1. Old photo of Lake Burley Griffin
2. Photo taken this year

Prizes:  $500 for the best photo from each category
